A father sent his 9 bonny daughters, one after the other, to fetch water from a well. You'd think that after the first few daughters failed to return he'd suspect that something was wrong, but no. All 9 were devoured by the dragon at the bottom of the well. There's more to the story, but I haven't gotten over the first part yet. Absolutely baffling behaviour.
